The radial velocity method is one of the principal techniques used in the search for exoplanets. It is also known as Doppler spectroscopy. Just as a star causes a planet to move in an orbit around it, so a planet causes its host star to move in a small counter-orbit resulting in a tiny additional, regularly-varying component to the star's motion. Other methods of finding exoplanets include radial velocity (looking for a “wobble” in a star's position caused by a planet’s gravity), direct imaging (blocking the light of the star to see the planet) and microlensing (watching for events where a star passes in front of another star, and the gravity of the first star acts as a lens). How We Detect Exoplanets: The Radial-Velocity Method Exoplanets and their stars pull on each other.
After the radial velocity method, this has been the most productive. One well-known method for detecting the presence of exoplanets is the radial velocity method. On this (radial velocity) method astronomers basically measure the variations in the radial velocity (rate of change of the distance between the object/source and a given point) of the star with respect to Earth.

Let’s take a look at each one. The Transit Method (3068 discoveries) By far the most productive way to find exoplanets, the Transit method was used by the Kepler space telescope.

The radial velocity (RV) method (sometimes referred to as the "Doppler wobble" method) is an indirect method for detecting exoplanets which The Radial Velocity Method.
The Exoplanet Detection: Radial Velocity Method model simulates the detection of exoplanets by using the radial velocity method and the Doppler effect. In this simulation the exoplanet orbits the star (sun-sized) in circular motion via Kepler's third law. The radial velocity of the star is determined from the velocity of the exoplanet. This animation shows how astronomers use very precise spectrographs such as the HARPS instrument on the 3.6-meter telescope at La Silla, Chile to find exopla

Astronomers have several methods to calculate stellar distances; when searching for exoplanets, only the nearest stars are searched, and in this case, the parallax method is the most simple and effective. The star “The first task on the ground is to improve the precision radial velocity method by which the majority of the close to 500 known exoplanets have been discovered. Exoplanets can be detected by the transit method when the star, planet and observer are aligned. The transits trans- late into a shallow dip in the stellar light curve. Several methods for detecting exoplanets have been de- veloped: Doppler measurements, transit observations, mi- crolensing, astrometry, and direct imaging. 24 Jan 2020 cause stars to wobble in space, changing the color of the light astronomers observe.
